The parts that matter and nobody sees

Waterproofing and floor falls are where bathroom renovations fail, and they fail quietly, two or three years later.

Both are done properly here because the same team doing the tiling did the waterproofing, so nothing gets rushed to hand over to the next trade.

Small bathrooms and ensuites

A small room is not a small job. Everything still has to come out, the waterproofing still has to be right and the falls still have to run to the drain.

What changes is the layout. In a tight footprint the wins come from where the door swings, whether the shower goes frameless and how much of the wall the vanity gives back. A wall hung vanity and a frameless screen will do more for a small room than any amount of clever tiling. Running the tiles to the ceiling in a single large format rather than a small one cuts the grout lines down and stops the eye breaking the room up. A niche in the shower wall saves you the shelf that would otherwise sit out in the space.

Around a week for a smaller bathroom and two to three weeks for a larger one. If it is the only bathroom in the house we will tell you before we start roughly how many days you will be without it, and we plan the job to keep that stretch as short as we can.

It depends on the room and on what you want done. We have done bathrooms at $5,000 and bathrooms at $50,000. Tell us what you have in mind to spend and we will quote to get the best result out of it. Yes, and it usually does. Leaving the plumbing where it is takes the plumber’s time and the wall and floor work that goes with it out of the job. If the layout is the part you do not like, we will price it both ways so you can see what the change is actually costing you.

Either way. Most people like to pick their own tiles and tapware, and we will point you at the suppliers we deal with and tell you what works well and what will give you trouble later. If you would rather not spend your weekends in showrooms, we will put a selection together for you to approve.
