Laundry renovations in Perth

Small rooms

Getting more out of a small laundry

Overhead storage, a benchtop run over the machines, moving the trough off the main wall, a stacked dryer, a drying rail that folds away. Small changes, and they are the difference between a room you avoid and one that works.

The two that come up most are the trough and the door. Swapping a freestanding trough for one built into a benchtop gives you a surface you can actually fold on, and rehanging the door to swing out instead of in can hand you back a whole wall. Neither costs much next to the rest of the job.

The laundry and the bathroom are often on the same wet area wall, and the same trades are already on site.

Doing both together costs less than doing them a year apart, and the house is only disrupted once.

Laundry renovation questions

Usually a few days to a week. It is a smaller room, but the waterproofing and the tiling still have to cure properly, so a good part of the time on site is spent waiting on those rather than working.

Often, yes. It comes down to where the drainage and the power can practically go and whether the new room can be vented. We get the plumber to look at it early, before you have your heart set on a spot that will not work.

Yes. A laundry is an internal wet area, so it is waterproofed to the Australian Standard, and how far up the wall and across the floor that runs depends on the room and on where the trough and the machines sit. It is the part of the job nobody sees and the most expensive part to put right later.

It is the sensible way to do it if both are on the list. The trades are already on site, the waterproofing and the tiling happen in the same run, and you only live through the mess once. It normally works out cheaper than booking them separately.
